My monthly bouquet for Museo Gallery's opening night (5-7 p.m. tonight, In Langley) is mostly store-bought, for the first time since May. When I have to go to the store for bouquet fodder, I know gardening season is really, truly, drawing to a close.
And yet, I was able to mix in some final remnants from my garden, which somehow makes all the difference. I have to admit it was great fun gathering all the materials, and having such a wide palette of blooms to work with - advantages which almost make up for having to buy flowers rather than cutting them from the garden.
The lime green chrysanthemums and ethereal blue eryngium are from Best Buds (4111 E Madison Street, Seattle, 206-709-3926) in Madison Park, which always has an interesting assortment of materials at great prices. And you get to mix-and-match, choosing one thing or another from different buckets to create your own unique bouquet.
The variously-colored little peppers-on-stems are from Trader Joe's. I always stop in and check out what TJ's has in stock, because you never know what you might find at ridiculously cheap prices. The alstroemeria, golden Spirea 'Magic Carpet' foliage, and the honeysuckle blooms were clipped fresh in my hail-tattered garden this morning....
