After all the recent rain, some warm sun, and the soil finally warming up, the garden is exploding with foliage and flower. Don't you love how peony, wisteria and lilac bloom is overlapping this year?
Still the garden cries out for objects and art. Hard edges, relatively unchanging materials, and focal points offer relief from the garden's constant changes. ....plus it's so fun to bring out favorite pieces, like these French ceramic quail from City Kitchens.
Art not only emphasizes the line of a stem or the color of a flower, but allows your eye to rest a bit from the profusion of plants.
Is this just an excuse to indulge in a few buddhas, and a fabulous metal cage by Whidbey artist Carl Ulmschneider? Yes, and yes....From the chartreuse glass birdbath on a stake (a Christmas gift new to the garden) or the orange buddha that's been moved around over the years, these pieces not only make me happy, but also make the garden fresh, to my own eyes anyway...
Stuck atop a copper pipe, the birdbath's glass looks reflective and slick against the bamboo background...and it's just deep enough to hold enough water for small birds to bathe in...this morning some goldfinches were happily splashing about....but flew away when I tried to take their photo...
Just planted 'Fire' begonias in the gold pot, a resin buddha and the cage with the top off.....
and with the top in place...Carl's work can be found at Museo Gallery in Langley....He also makes cages large enough to grow sweet peas on...a photo of that a little later in the season....

Love the quail; stinkin' cute! And they don't fly away when you try to photograph them, I see :) Thanks for the pix!

Looks great! I agree anything not floral adds to the garden and makes the flowers jump out that much more. Not to mention adds a uniqueness to the whole yard!

On festive occasions more than ever one thinks of one's dear ones far away.It is on the festival occasions when one misses his dear most.
