I have a new favorite thing; hot-off-the-presses pocket notebooks from Good Nature Publishing. It's hard to choose between DIG, READ, WRITE, or BIKE, with more subjects to come. The covers feature wabi sabi style art by Portland artist Peter Nevins .
These sweet little notebooks are the brainchild of Timothy Coleman, who has long nurtured and promoted local artists - he's the guy behind those horticultural fine art posters. I've long admired the posters, but these notebooks are so useful and personal I think we'll all be collecting them...
"I've tucked delightful quotes inside the cover to inspire the muse within," says Tim. The creamy paper has a light dot grid pattern to give writers, artists, gardeners, cyclists flexible space to draw or write. Tim calls them dream-catchers, his series of pleasure notebooks "designed to capture the words, songs, memories, poems & heart-felt revolution that is you."
The first editions are available online at Good Nature Publishing, and at University Book Store, Third Place Books, Bay Hay and Feed on Bainbridge Island, Ravenna Gardens, Powells Books on Burnside, in Portland, and Museo Gallery in Langley, Whidbey Island. They come in a 3-pack for $10.00. By the end of March, Tim will be producing notecards on a letter press with the same appealing art.
You know those Moleskin brand notebooks? They're a 300 million dollar business. Let's keep a slice of that here in the Northwest...Moleskin notebooks are produced in China. The Good Nature pleasure notebooks are made in Seattle with paper about as green as paper can get...the cover stock is FSC, which is the highest level of green certification. Sustainably sourced, locally produced...Now you all know what you'll be getting from me for your birthday...
And quotes to inspire, cheer, get your thoughts flowing....
