In what may be the gardening event of the season, a master Japanese pruner is giving a demonstration in a beautiful island pond garden.
You're invited to help support the Northwest Language Academy whlle spending the morning learning how to expertly prune trees.
Here's the details: Japanese Horticulture Workshop with Masa Mizuno on May 11, 2013, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an authentic Japanese lunch to follow, all in the waterfront garden of Norm and Danielle Bodine, on the south end of the island. The event includes not just a pruning demonstration by Masa Mizuno, but also a question and answer session, and tours of the Bodine gardens and pond.
As Director of the celebrated Portland Japanese Gardens, Osaka native Masa Mizuno has installed public and private Japanese gardens around the world. With his assistant Mark Akai, Mizuno-san has designed and maintained several remarkable Japanese Pond Gardens on Whidbey Island. This will be a unique opportunity to view one of these, in its maturity, and to meet and talk with these masters of Japanese Gardening.
The price of $75 includes workshop, luncheon and instructional DVD. All proceeds benefit the NWLA scholarship fund.
